Our NEWSLETTER now has a name! "Bonnes Nouvelles," the motto of the De Lannoy family and French for "Good News" or "Good Tidings," was suggested by Nancy DELANO. More information on the upcoming Annual Meeting at Plimouth Plantation is presented, along with a continuation of the articles begun in the December, 1993 Newsletter on Canadian DELANOs and European Places with a DELANO-DE LANNOY Connection. The European focus is on Philippe de la Noye and Leiden, Holland and includes an article reprinted from the April, 1983 edition of The Guardian in Canterbury (England) titled "The American Connection." This article references Philippe's home on Place Street, where he lived during the time he was waiting for passage to America on the Fortune. Next is a comprehensive article on "A Pilgrimage Through Leiden," complete with map. Muriel's Corner continues with information on tracing your family history. There is a query for information about Charles DELANO, who was born in either Indiana or Ohio and may have lived in Pulaski County, IN, in 1873-1874. The towns of Delano, Washington and Delano Beach, Washington are mentioned as part of the TOWNS of DELANO in NORTH AMERICA, THEN and NOW series. An essay about Philippe de la Noye authored by Richard Wilson Gouldin III as part of the DAR Essay Competition in Virginia this year is reprinted in this issue. Richard is a fifth-grade student at the Richmond County Elementary School in Warsaw, Virginia. Titled "Coming to America in Colonial Days 1607-1776," the essay imagines how Philippe must have felt as he experienced his life in those days.
